To review the evidence in support of steroids for the treatment of postoperative pseudoexfoliation. A literature search was conducted in PubMed (MEDLINE) from January 1970 to September 2005 to identify all studies investigating the effects of systemic steroids on pseudoexfoliation. The search terms were "pseudoexfoliation glaucoma," "post-operative glaucoma," "intraocular pressure," and "steroids." The electronic databases of the Cochrane Collaboration, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and the ClinicalTrials.gov Web site were reviewed to identify additional randomized control trials (RCTs) and meta-analyses. The reference lists of relevant studies were reviewed to identify additional studies. Fourteen case series and 1 RCT were identified that fulfilled the inclusion criteria. In the 4 RCTs, systemic steroids reduced intraocular pressure in eyes with pseudoexfoliation. The decrease in intraocular pressure was not sustained in any of these studies Key Factors in Consideration of an Equity Crowdfunding Investment – Part 1 At the start of 2018, it can be questioned as to whether or not we are heading into a viable new era for equity crowdfunding in the United Kingdom. The sector is going through a period of flux as it is trying to catch up to the move towards crowdfunding legislation in the United States and other nations. The days of offering atypical offerings such as ‘pre-concept stage’ and ‘hybrid’ offerings have largely gone by the wayside as the government moves towards legislation, and it is attempting to find a middle ground between access to finance and protecting investors. In this context, this paper will look at what a key part of the considerations that are made around a new equity crowdfunding investment is the level of risk that the investor is taking on. As equity crowdfunding becomes more established, we will see more offerings where the investors risk a minimum of 10% of the total investment, and it is worthwhile looking at the level of risk that this represents. One of the major pushes in this evolution of UK legislation is to enable the growth of high-risk lending and to support businesses that are in growth phase. This means that a company’s ability to repay the lenders is at an all-time high, as well as the ability to fund further growth. However, there is no guarantee that the business will grow, and if this growth is not forthcoming there may be significant losses. The size of the loan must be matched by the size of the business, meaning that the more funding is required, the greater risk to the lender is there to be. This is where the parameters of ‘high-risk’ come into play. In the UK, the definition is set at more than 10%, yet in the US it is much higher, and is often cited as 25%. It has been suggested that, given the move towards a 10% maximum, that the level of risk is all-time high for an equity crowdfunding investment. Equity crowdfunding regulations Currently, the UK has a provisional framework that is being developed in conjunction with the United Kingdom Securities and Futures Authority, Financial Conduct Authority and other relevant bodies. The framework will act as the backbone of any new legislation that is developed as and when it is implemented. We have previously looked at how an all-round success for equity crowdfunding can depend on the way in which it is conducted, and can improve the final investment d0c515b9f4
